Tips for painting wood and metal

painting tips for wood & metal paint
1. preparation
Before applying wood & metal paint, it's a good plan to inspect the surface. If it has not been pre-treated, apply a coat of multi-primer first. Multi-primer ensures good adhesion of our lacquer, which in turn leads to a longer life cycle. Are you painting over an existing layer of lacquer? Clean it with a degreaser and then sand the previous layer with fine-grit sandpaper. Always wear safety goggles and a dust mask when sanding. Next step? Clean the surface and remove grease with a damp cloth and some detergent. Make sure there isn't too much draft in the room and that the air is dry. Dust in the air combined with lacquering can lead to a lot of frustration. Believe us on that. Also important: pay attention to the temperature. Fairf lacquer is best applied at a room temperature of 20 °C.
2. masking
So. The preparations have been made, time for the next step. Not the most fun part, but very important: masking. Painter's tape usually sticks well, but dusty skirting boards can sometimes be tricky. So wipe them down first with a damp cloth. Once you've done this, applying the tape tightly is very easy. Good to do before applying all the tape: test whether the tape doesn't stick too well. If your tape pulls the plaster layer off the wall, it's smarter to choose tape specially made for delicate surfaces. It really exists!
3. painting
Yes, the moment is here. Time to paint! Slide the lacquer roller onto the frame, make sure it's secure, and place it in your paint tray (where you will pour the fairf later). Next step: take the brush(es) out of the packaging. Open the fairf can and stir the paint with the stick. Pour the first amount of fairf into the tray. Make sure you place your fairf can and paint tray in a smart spot. It would be silly if you stepped in it with those big feet of yours (although we understand that dancing while painting is tempting. Have you checked out our colourful playlist already?)
To achieve the best possible result, we recommend finishing element by element. For example, if we look at a window frame; simply put, it consists of 4 elements. Top, bottom, left, and right. These elements are separated by a dividing line. Finish them one by one. Also advice: apply a generous dollop of paint per element and spread it with long strokes. This allows the paint to flow out nicely and form a smooth layer. The next step? Check for dust particles and remove them with your brush. That is still relatively easy immediately after lacquering. By the way, never apply fairf too thickly; that is not necessary at all. The quality of our product is very good. The lacquer is touch-dry within 30 minutes. In principle, one coat provides coverage, but for the best protection, we recommend applying a second coat after 1.5 to 2 hours. In the meantime, cover your used equipment well so they remain in optimal condition for the second coat.
4. cleaning up
Finished painting? Keep leftover paint tightly sealed and frost-free, following the product instructions, for your next project or a small touch-up. Do not pour paint or rinse water containing paint down the drain. Follow the product label and local collection rules for leftover paint, tool cleaning and empty packaging.
Above all, don't forget to share a photo of the result with #fairf!
